On May 21, the volunteers held the 4th “Children and War” therapy session in Odesa for children, traumatized by war in Eastern Ukraine and occupation of Crimea, and their parents. Previous therapy sessions, second and third within therapy course, took place on May 14 and 17 respectively.
11 children learned different techniques which help overcome difficult traumatic memories. They also were drawing their nightmares and learning how to cope with them. 8 parents together with trainers discussed and learned about the same techniques to be able to help children practice these techniques at home.
All children received therapy “art-kits” thanks to the support of our Canadian partners and donors – “HOPE worldwide of Canada” charity organisation and Ukrainian Credit Union (Canada).
After the sessions the trainers had a debriefing session during which they discussed their activities and results. They also received professional recommendations from a supervisor who was present at the therapy sessions and could provide evaluation and advice. The trainers also discussed the further development of the program in Odesa and Odesa region.
Therapy sessions are held within Phase III of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” International Relief Project with the organizational support of Foundation’s local partners – “The Way Home: Charity Foundation and Odesa regional NGO “Association of Intellectuals “Assembly”.
