On February 24, March 2, 9 and 16, the psychologists of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project completed last four “Children and War. Teaching Recovery techniques” therapy sessions for children and parents IDPs in the Community Centre for Internally Displaced Persons in Irpin, Kyiv region. 6 children and 8 parents participated in the therapy course, held to provide psychological assistance to children, traumatized by war in Eastern Ukraine and occupation of Crimea within Phase II of the project.
The results of the sessions are vivid – thanks to the acquired skills and techniques children sleep better; they “tamed” their negative memories. Parents started looking at the bright side of their lives, became more confident and closer with their children.
Community Centre for IDPs in Irpin, Kyiv region was founded in December 2015 with the assistance of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR Ukraine). According to local authorities, about five thousand internally displaced persons live in Irpin. The Centre activities are aimed at their integration into the local community, provision of social services, including: legal counselling, humanitarian aid and psychological support, children’s playroom and special programs for the elderly.
