Learning to Help: 48 New Trainers Receive Their Certificates

From January to September 2026, HOPE worldwide Ukraine implemented a joint project with the Charitable Foundation “VAV Better Future” and the charitable organisation Sovereign Philanthropy. The project brought together volunteers and members of Christian communities from different regions of Ukraine who wanted to gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to support people affected by the trauma of war.
Three groups of participants completed training in the “Children and War: Teaching Recovery Techniques” programme. Following the training, they began facilitating groups in their communities under the supervision of experienced professionals. For these new trainers, it was an opportunity not only to put their knowledge into practice, but also to receive ongoing support, discuss challenging situations, and gradually build confidence in their work.
On 19 September, the project came to a close with a certificate ceremony for the new trainers. Together, the project participants achieved significant results:
  • 55 groups conducted as part of the project;
  • 498 children took part in the sessions;
  • 87 adults participated in the groups;
  • 48 new trainers received certification.
Behind each of these numbers are people, meetings, conversations, new experiences, and opportunities to receive support where it is needed.
We would like to express our special gratitude to our trainers and supervisors — Iryna Sukhova, Tetyana Oboianska, and Yana Serhieieva. Thank you for providing the training, professional guidance, ongoing support, and willingness to share your experience with those just beginning their journey in this work.
We hope that the “Children and War: Teaching Recovery Techniques” programme will become a reliable tool for the new trainers in serving people who have experienced the trauma of war. It is important not only to teach practical techniques, but also to help people be there for others, listen to them, and offer support during difficult times.
We are grateful to our partners, trainers, supervisors, and everyone who took part in the project and contributed to this important work.
