On November 24, Kiev psychologists of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project Irina and Alexey Sukhovs attended one of the classes under the program “Children and War. Teaching Recovering Techniques” in Nikolaevka, Donetsk Region. This city was greatly affected by the war: it was bombarded, captured, liberated … Now the city is not bombed, but many buildings “bear the traces of war and fear”. In the hearts of many people, too, “lives” war and the fear that it will return and take away loved ones. The trainers of the “Children and War” program, Anna Gaponova and Svetlana Savenkova, are students and future teachers. They were very young when the war began, so the interest in the topic of the trauma of war and in working with children is not accidental. Today they conduct group classes for teenagers in the premises of the Renaissance church. Irina and Alexey Sukhovs were at the second meeting of the group. During the lesson, children told many difficult stories, actively compiled a list of traumatic events and their consequences for a person, mastered new self-help techniques for working with fears and stress. Ahead of them there are many interesting meetings and joint activities for healing mental wounds. Good luck guys and peace of mind!
