On March 19, 21 and 26, the psychologists of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project held three last “Children and War. Teaching Recovery techniques” therapy sessions for for children in “Barvinok” Children’s Sanatorium (Boyarka, Kyiv region). The psychologists of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project Svitlana Fesyk and Nataliya Yevstratyeva held in total 14 sessions – 7 therapy sessions for each of the two age groups. 14 teenagers and 15 primary school kids took part went through therapy course.
As stated by psychologists, at first the sessions were quite intense. Children were not attentive and didn’t trust either the trainers or each other. After several sessions one could see the first valuable results. Children started coping with their fears, tension and aggression. They gained skills to control their emotions and behaviour. The psychologists managed to create a comfortable atmosphere of trust, establish contact with “difficult” teenagers.
“Barvinok” Children’s Sanatorium receives children with complicated living circumstances (orphans, children from dysfunctional families) for health recovery. Currently, 54 children are staying at the sanatorium, among them – 16 internally displaced children. Therapy groups consisted of IDPs children and children who suffered from psychological trauma related to violence in peaceful time. The administration of the sanatorium thanked the Foundation and project psychologists for therapy sessions and children’s care.
