On May 30, 2015, the first therapy sessions for children, traumatized by war in Eastern Ukraine, have been conducted in Korostyshiv (Zhytomyrska oblast) within the pilot stage of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project.
Ten psychologists went to the temporary camp for IDPs (internally displaced persons) located on the territory of “Teteriv” health resort in Korostyshiv. There they held two therapy sessions for children: for a group of younger kids (20 children, 6-12 years old) and for a group of teenagers (6 children). Therapy session with 15 parents took at the same time as other volunteers worked with children. Parents discussed the posttraumatic symptoms in their children. The sessions lasted for 1.5 hours and were followed by group supervision, held by Natalya Podolyak, professional trainer of “Children and War. Teaching Recovery Techniques” program.
This week, our volunteer-psychologists are going to Korostyshiv to conduct a second therapy session. In total they plan to hold 6 sessions for each group of children and parents during the pilot stage of the project.
