On February 10 and 19, the second and the third “Children and War. Teaching Recovery techniques” therapy sessions took place in the Community Centre for Internally Displaced Persons in Irpin, Kyiv region. Therapy sessions for children and their parents (IPDs) were held by the psychologists of “HOPE worldwide Ukraine” Charity Foundation.
Children have already got to know each other. They started sharing their difficult memories and hardships with the rest of the group. The psychologists taught them how to calm themselves and control their emotions. The parents discussed their settlement problems, insecurity and uncertainty of future. The psychologtsts told them about negative consequences of stress and psychological trauma.
Community Centre for IDPs in Irpin, Kyiv region was founded in December 2015 with the assistance of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR Ukraine). According to local authorities, about five thousand internally displaced persons live in Irpin. The Centre activities are aimed at their integration into the local community, provision of social services, including: legal counselling, humanitarian aid and psychological support, children’s playroom and special programs for the elderly.
