On April 24, two first introductory therapy sessions for children and parents were held in “Kuyalnyk” sanatorium in Odesa. During the meeting participants (who knew each other already since they had lived in the sanatorium already for two years) got to know the trainers and learned about the “Children and War. Teaching Recovery Techniques” program. Session with children consisted of different games. And communication with parents demonstrated their positive attitude though not all of them realized the importance of the therapy sessions for their children and themselves. The trainers emphasized that it was necessary to be present at every session of the therapy course.
And on May 03, the psychologists-volunteers, participants of the “Children and War. Teaching Recovery Techniques” training in Odesa held the next therapy session for children and parents. In total 9 children and 9 parents are taking part in the therapy course. During the session they discussed the story of the displaced boy Mykhailyk and practiced the “safe place” technique. Apart from that the parents talked about their feelings and children got a chance to share their traumatic experiences they went through during bombings. They are looking forward to the next session which is to take place on May 08.
“Children and War” therapy sessions have been launched by volunteers for children, traumatized by war in Eastern Ukraine and occupation of Crimea, and their parents who live in Odesa region within Phase III of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” International Relief Project.
