On February 03, the team of psychologists of “HOPE worldwide Ukraine” Charity Foundation held the first “Children and War. Teaching Recovery techniques” therapy session for internally displaced persons (IDPs): children and their parents. The session was conducted in the Community Centre for Internally Displaced Persons in Irpin, Kyiv region. The psychologists, Snizhana Volokh, Olena Bozhor, Natalia Yevstratieva and Iryna Sukhova, worked with groups of children (5 children) and parents (8 parents).
Over the next few weeks the psychologists will hold another 6 sessions within one therapy course. Therapy sessions are held to provide psychological care for children, traumatized by war in Eastern Ukraine and occupation of Crimea, within Phase II of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” International Relief Project.
Community Centre for IDPs in Irpin, Kyiv region was founded in December 2015 with the assistance of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR Ukraine). According to local authorities, about five thousand internally displaced persons live in Irpin. The Centre activities are aimed at their integration into the local community, provision of social services, including: legal counselling, humanitarian aid and psychological support, children’s playroom and special programs for the elderly.
