On December 13, as part of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Region, group supervision was held for the coaches of the “Children and War. Teaching Recovery Techniques” program, who in November 2018 were trained under the program and are now conducting group classes for children and their parents in Pokrovsk and Mirnograd.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Everyone had the opportunity to share their victories and difficult situations that arise during classes with children, to receive advice from colleagues and a supervisor. Many participants noted that there are a considerable number of children with special needs in the groups, as well as children with multiple traumas. Multiple trauma makes them aggressive, irritable, tearful, inattentive, disrupts their sleep. It is not only difficult for such children to go to school, often parents, teachers and classmates complain about their bad behavior. The program “Children and War” gives traumatized children the opportunity to heal their spiritual wounds and begin to build healthy relationships with peers and adults, and improve school performance. According to school psychologists who have gathered for a supervised meeting, children are happy to attend classes, value their knowledge and absolutely do not want to part, offering to continue and continue classes until summer.

We express special gratitude for the cooperation of our partner – the Center for Psychological and Social Rehabilitation of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Region, and Valentina Kozhushko – for coordinating the project “Children and War” in Pokrovsk.
