On June 01-18, the 18-day recreational camp for 20 children from the “grey” zone – Maryinka and Maryinka district of Donetsk region – has been held in children’s recreational and rehabilitation camp “Karamel” near Kyiv. The camp was held within Phase V of the “Helping Hand for Ukraine” project implemented by “HOPE worldwide Ukraine” charity foundation and financed by “HOPE worldwide Canada” international charity organization.

The program of the camp included sport and recreational activities, as well as “Children and War: Teaching Recovery Techniques” therapy sessions. Psychologists-instructors assisted children in dealing with posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms (PTSD): children learned the techniques of healthy communication with peers, how to manage and cope with own emotions and self-assistance in stress situations in future.

This camp for children from the zone of military actions was made possible thanks to the efforts and energy of many like-minded people united by one goal. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the camp director, chief-psychologist and project coordinator Ira Sukhova for thorough preparations and organization of the whole program, for her industrious work, warmth and care towards children and personnel.

We thank the students of Donbas State Pedagogical University in Slovyansk Serhiy Reshetniak, Oleksandr Khodakovskyi, Tetiana Karpenko, and Kyrylo Berkutov and also Larysa Skrypchenko and Natalia Kovtun for their great work and love towards children! Special thanks to Natalia Podolyak, project psychologist, for the warm and cozy atmosphere and Oleksiy Sukhov, camp administrator, for the tasty treats! We are thankful to Oleh Tkachenko, the team of “Breath of Hope” Mission” charity organization and Foundation’s volunteer Olena Myrna, for their assistance in getting ready for the camp. He cooperation with the leaders of “Karamel” training project Iryna Zavalna and Yuriy Suprun was fruitful and successful. Big thanks to Lyudmyla Bohdan, Oleksandr Rymsha and Lyudmyla Kyparenko who took care of the children’s health and good mood of children and instructors. We also express our sincere gratitude to the “Kidland” children’s park of professions, contact zoo “12 Months”, and “Roshen” confectionery for interesting leisure time for the boys and girls!

P.S. According to the unofficial statistics near 200 thousand children of pre-school and school age stay to live in the “grey” and “red” zone of military actions in Eastern Ukraine. More than anyone else these children need psychological assistance and support.
