On January 09 and 16, the psychologists-volunteers of “HOPE worldwide Ukraine” charity foundation held two therapy sessions on the premises of the “Sofia Kyivska” National Reserve in Kyiv for IDP children and parents who survived war in Eastern Ukraine and occupation of Crimea.
The first session in 2016 took place on January 09. It was already the fourth therapy session within the “Children and War. Teaching Recovery Techniques” therapy course. Participants of the session greeted the psychologists as their good old friends. They shared impressions from Christmas and New Year holidays. Some of them went home, on the occupied territory. The trip was not safe, thus the exercises and techniques learned at the previous sessions came in handy so they could worry less and support their parents. During the therapy the participants continued to learn the techniques of controlling the traumatic memories.
At the fifth session that took place on January 16, children and parents dedicated their time to the important component – physical feelings after traumatic event. They learned how our bodies react to stress and how one can help the body not to strain while remembering the event. Children and parents were drawing, relaxing and communicating.
The next and last therapy session, the sixth and the seventh, will be held on January 30 and February 06 respectively. Everyone is welcome to join the next therapy group, which starts in February 2016.
